Game Plan
It's been five years since I became obsessed with the idea of building futuristic cities in remote areas of Nigeria. Three years ago, I approached several VC firms with the idea of Practical Labs, aimed at building small experiments to fund a larger vision—it was a dead-end. While there has been no progress in construction so far, the idea is evolving, and better processes are emerging.
When the time comes, I plan to set up a committee for the future city of Nigeria, starting with a small town in Eastern Nigeria. The blueprint is already drafted.
My current game plan revolves around self-funding my obsession. It's an obsession because I can't seem to align with any other life paths; it is too important to ignore
It's even more important to me than a stable life, income, or a happy, healthy relationship with friends and family, though those are great. Rarely do I get the opportunity to share this passion with others, most people don't understand, and may never understand. So it falls on me to execute this vision correctly so that they may see and experience new awakening.
Building futuristic cities won't happen overnight; however, it is relevant and fuels my existence. That's why I must continually go back to basics and ensure I'm taking the right steps.
I've ruled out the possibility of anyone funding me for this project; the likelihood of success in this area is near zero. It may seem messy, impossible, or even foolish to consider. Who would want to venture to a remote town, acquire acres of land, and embark on experiments for a new city?
To me, it makes perfect sense. I get to shape a future I care about alongside like-minded individuals who envision a better, more exciting experience in the country.
Step one is breaking free from zero. Nothing hurts more than having a mind disabled by inaction—it's like a boiling volcano waiting to erupt. That's why I've chosen to channel my energy into writing, allowing me to clarify and develop my ideas.
I'm building a profitable business to fund my project, as I've concluded that a steady stream of revenue-generating ventures is the only viable option. Here's a list of business ideas I'm implementing to determine which ones yield the best results:
Buildlle: Software as a Service (SaaS). I figured with the skills and knowledge I have in tech, I could build a product that help businesses, and startups get a professional website for their brand. It is intuitive and simple to use — Buildlle.space
If I can create the best product in this area and grow it to a thousand users, it may turn out sufficient to fund other ventures and provide startup funding for the city project.
CooolSpace: A platform that connects people who need venues for events, meetings, photoshoots, parties, and more with available spaces. Users can sign up to either host or book a space. Once a space is booked, the platform collects a processing fee, which contributes to funding the vision. The implementation for version one (v1) of the idea is slightly different — Sign up for beta or book a space today at coool.space
Refloww: A beverage company starting with subscription-based water in borosilicate glass bottles. The service includes an app to track water consumption, a refill button to order anytime you run out, and a recycling program for the bottles. Refloww is more than just water in a glass bottle - it's a step towards a plastic-free future. The state of plastic water bottling is troubling, and I believe we need new business solutions on that front. The future city will aim to minimize plastic use. Progress here is currently being worked on, and you can reach out to me to learn more.
These ventures will operate in a waterfall process, meaning funds will be extracted from one successful venture to grow new ventures. If one can succeed in funding other ideas, then the issue of funding for the city project will be resolved in time.
It's a decade-long project, spanning 30 - 50 years in the making to see thriving futuristic cities; and the people I hold dear will most likely not be around by then, especially Mom and Dad. For me, the true value lies in the journey itself, not just the destination. As I turn 24 this May at the time of this writing, I'm embarking on this path with a sense of purpose and dedication.
Beyond building these ventures, the present may be uncertain, but I have a clear vision for my future
While these business ventures aren't my best ideas, they're within the scope of my abilities and partly align with my interests, making them a great starting point.
As the saying goes, 'we miss 100% of the chances we don't take, and we don't get them back.' This project is too significant to let slip away, and if it succeeds it would bring immense joy and fulfillment.
Game plan is written because life is indeed a game, and you need a map to play. I also need to come back to check if everything went as planned, and also to share my vision with all of mankind. This is what's most important to me; everything else is secondary. While I have other creative outlets; the impact on what is created this decade will be the benchmark for future generations to build upon. This plan is a foundation for a better future.
It's a challenging plan—one I didn't choose, but I think it chose me. I can run away from it, but I'd rather embrace and see it through. I may well be conflicted or plagued with a weird personality type, one that finds challenges like these hard to ignore. I can't tell. But what I do know is that it will be done.
For now, I'll reserve further thoughts for another time. Though the burden may be heavy, it's mine to bear.
